Brentwood Town clinch play-off spot

BRENTWOOD TOWN clinched an Isthmian League North promotion play-off spot with one game to spare after a thumping 7-1 home win over Romford on Easter Monday in front of 635 fans.  Needing three points from the last two games to confirm their spot in the Isthmian League North Division play-offs, already relegated Romford stunned the Arena with an early goal from Temitore Babolola. Their shock lead didn’t last long though as Ashley Nzala nodded in a George Craddock free kick and then incredibly Brentwood were awarded three penalties in 14 mins!

Top scorer Tom Richardson converted all three as Town found themselves 4-1 up at the break.

George Craddock scored the goal of the game in the second half to make it 5-1 with a classy volley before two late goals from Richardson again and Rob Harvey took the tally to seven to seal a top four finish. Richardson’s four-goal haul to took his season’s tally to 36, 29 coming in the league to lead the North Division scoring table.

Brentwood end the regular season with an intriguing trip to Stowmarket Town on Saturday who are also assured of a play-off spot and sit a point above Brentwood.

Stowmarket will clinch 3rd place if they avoid defeat meaning that Town would have to return again to Stowmarket on Tuesday in the play-off Semi Final but a Brentwood win would mean Stowmarket having to travel to the Arena so the drama is not over yet. There is also another scenario in that if Canvey Island, currently in 2nd spot, lose at Hashtag then Stowmarket could overtake them and mean a trip to Canvey for Brentwood but all eyes will be on the match at Greens Meadow.
