Essex Senior League – Saturday 14th December Round-Up

(Report by Peter Dudley / Photo by Matt North)

Essex Senior League
Hadley 2 Hashtag 1

Leaders Hashtag lost for only the third time in the league this season after Hadley made it eleven from eleven at home after coming from behind to win this one. The visitors made a great start after taking a fifth minute lead when Ross Gleed crossed for George Smith to smash into the bottom corner, but the hosts levelled when Cameron Ferguson turned and finished well from inside the box, and the hosts won it when Sam Edwards netted from a free kick to send the hosts 4th and see Hashtag slip to 3rd.

Ilford 2 Sawbridgeworth Town 1

Ilford netted with twenty minutes remaining to take all three points against Sawbridgeworth Town at Cricklefield. A fantastic Anastasius Antoniou volley from a Cobblah cross gave the hosts a second minute lead, but a looping header from Louis Mackham levelled it up for the visitors six minutes before the break. But, with 70 minutes on the clock Andre Embalo tapped home after a keeper error to see his side take the spoils.

Saffron Walden Town 1 St Margaretsbury 0

New signing Olly Fortune netted the only goal of the game as league leaders Saffron Walden Town battled to victory against St Margaretsbury at Catons Lane. The only goal came in the 57th minute when a free kick from Isherwood was parried by Anguzo and Fortune was there to tap home the rebound to score on his Bloods debut, meaning three points and two-point lead at the top.

Sporting Bengal United 0 Walthamstow 2

Two early Dwade James strikes were enough for Walthamstow to take all three points against Sporting Bengal United at Mile End. Stow took the lead when a pinpoint cross to the back post from Folan saw a Crilley header almost pushed out by the keeper, but James makes sure, tapping in, before a James free header at the back post doubled the visitors lead. Stow are now back in second and two points behind the leaders.

Redbridge Vs Hoddesdon Town, Southend Manor Vs Woodford Town, Stansted Vs West Essex & Takeley Vs Enfield were all postponed
