Friday 30th August

Buildbase FA Vase First Qualifying Round
Clapton 1 Catholic United 6

Catholic United put a sorry Clapton to the sword as the Olympian League side netted six at Parkside to make their debut in the competition a very memorable one indeed. The visitors dominated the early exchanges and took the lead with a Vaughan header, and the underdogs from Step Seven were in dreamland when they doubled their lead after just twelve minutes as a Kearney corner went straight in. And the side from the Olympian Premier were three goals clear and in total command soon after when a wonderful move ended with Thomas slotting home, and they reached the break three goals to the good as they were totally outclassing their Step Five hosts. The Tons needed the next goal to stay in the contest and duly pulled one back when Aziz unleashed an effort from twenty-five yards, but immediately after Catholic restored their three-goal cushion when Jacobs found the bottom corner, and then they sealed the contest when adding a fifth as Kent sent a free-kick towards goal which keeper Gomes got a hand to but could not keep out. Things then got worse for Clapton after they were reduced to ten men following a second yellow card for a poor challenge, and Catholic then added a sixth when Kearney slotted home from eighteen yards out. Catholic now travel to either Lopes Tavares or Harwich & Parkeston in the next round.

Park View 1 West Essex 1 (Match Abandoned After 87 Minutes Due To Series Injury

Park View and West Essex were locked together at 1-1 with three minutes remaining when a serious injury meant the game had to be abandoned. The visitors had the better of a goalless first half but found the hosts keeper in fine form, keeping his side in the contest, and then totally against the run of play the hosts went in front early in the second period when netting brilliantly off the post. It looked like it wasn’t going to be the visitor’s day in front of goal but then substitute Izzy Ogedi-Uzokwe leapt highest to level for the ESL side with eight minutes to go. But things did not end well as Mihael went down for the visitors with a serious injury, resulting in a second yellow and therefore a red card for the home side, meaning an ambulance had to be called and the game being abandoned after 87 minutes.
