Station support for visitors helping hospice car and bike fest roar off

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We spend a lot of time welcoming in visitors from our local hospice, Saint Francis Hospice which covers Brentwood from its base in Havering-atte-Bower.

Last week was no exception as we invited Chris Franklin and Alan Mason to talk about Frankie’s Classic Car and Bike Fest.

Frankie’s is an annual event which has been taking place for the last seven years at Ford’s Dunton Technical Centre in Laindon and Chris and Alan explained how the event, for which they are volunteer organisers, has raised over £100,000 over the years towards the Hospice’s running costs.

Saint Francis do a lot of great work and also run some fantastic events including the Big Yellow Quiz at the Brentwood Centre which Phoenix FM hosted last year. You can hear regular news on Mike Porter’s Breakfast Show with a catch-up on our website at phoenixfm.com.

* Phoenix FM is hosting an evening networking event on Friday 21 September at Shenfield Cricket Club. This promises to be a big one as we are also celebrating 5,000 days of broadcasting – any excuse for a party! For more details please call Steve Roach on 07952 498009.

* We’ve got a lot of great guests coming up next week including local solicitor Brian Hughes from Rainer Hughes talking about leases and local poet Paul Wood talking about his latest book.

* There will also be live music in the studio from Jake Foster, The Bynches and Avalanche 5.
