Phoenix FM presenters and listeners were out in strength at this year’s Billericay Fun Walk at Barleylands.
The event, now in its 15th year, is organised by Basildon and Billericay MP John Baron. Because of the growing popularity of the event it was decided to stage the event on the opposite side of Barleylands Road in an open field which allowed more space, flexibility and a better walk without styles and road crossings.
Overall, around 2,500 people attended the event with around 110 charities and good causes being assisted this year. Billericay’s Town Crier, Jim Shrubb, helped proceedings along. John also said a few words of thanks before he and Jim led the walk off.
John said:
“This year’s walk has been a great success with around 110 charities benefiting. Our family of volunteers deserve special praise both for another great BBQ courtesy of Team Handsome and for ensuring our move to the new location went well – this will allow us greater potential to grow the Fun Walk even more and help more causes. The Barleylands team were also instrumental in making this work and our thanks go to them.
“Over £40,000 has already been donated into our bonus pot by our corporate and individual sponsors. This year our thanks go to Swan Housing Association, c2c Rail Ltd, Butyl Products Ltd, Abellio Greater Anglia, Hallmark Care Homes, Selex ES Ltd, IFE Global Logistics, Private Ambulance Service Ltd, Mr Barrie Stone and others. Their generosity will help many good causes in the nooks and crannies of our communities.”
