So last week we looked at The Top 20 songs of the year so far but this week we are going to take a look at the Top 20 Songs of the 21st century, or as Digital Spy like to call it The Biggest Pop Bangers of the 21st Century!
There are lots of Pop Queens in the industry and 9 of them battled it out to be number 1 as the top 9 consist of females! Male band, The Killers seemed to just slip into the top 10 which is surprising as they may be seen more as a rock band than pop.
But voted for by Digital Spy readers over 32,000 votes were cast in 9 days. There were a choice of 36 of the biggest anthems released over the past 16 years to choose from, but only one song per artists.
These are the results ….
20) Pharrell Williams – Happy (587 votes)
19) Destiny’s Child – Bootylicous, (597 votes)
18) Justin Bieber – Sorry (674 votes)
17) OutKast – Hey Ya (701 votes)
16) Little Mix – Black Magic (702 votes)
15) Nicki Minaj – Starships (votes 755)
14) Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling (votes 790)
13) David Guttea ft Sia – Titanium (848 votes)
12) Justin Timberlake – Sexy Back (902 votes)
11) Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk, (votes 982)
And the Top 10 are….
The Killers – Mr Brightside
The only male band to get in the top ten with 1,000 votes is The Killers’ classic track Mr Brightside.
Shakira – Hips Don’t Lie
It might not have out done itself from the 00’s, as it was the biggest selling single back then but Hips Don’t Lie comes in at number 9 with 1,200 votes.
Rihanna – We Found Love
Technically this features Calvin Harris so maybe there are some other males in the top ten, but as it’s Rihanna’s song, We Found Love got to number 8 with 1,200 votes.
Christina Aguilera – Dirrty
Christina’s 2002 hit is at number 7 with 1,400 votes.
Beyonce – Crazy In Love
Another collaboration with a male featured vocals that is Jay Z, husband of Queen B, breakthrough hit Crazy In Love scoring 1,600 votes.
Katy Perry – Firework
The 2010 banger makes the Top 5 with 1,600 votes.
Kylie Minogue – Out of My Head
This song always appears on list like these, maybe it’s because we can’t get it out of our heads! But 15 years on and Kylie’s 2001 chart-topper is fourth with 3,400 votes.
Lady Gaga – Bad Romance
Gaga rounds off our Top 3 with 3,800 votes.
Britney Spears – Toxic
Just missing out on the top spot but landing a respectable second with 5,200 votes it’s Toxic!
Madonna – Hung Up
And possibly the longest standing woman of Pop from the list, tops the list and pushes all the Pop Queens and Kings out of the way with her 2005 hit Hung Up, Madonna takes first place with 5,400 votes.
