The future isn’t bright for Eclipse

The Brentwood Gazette reports today that Eclipse Nightclub in Ongar Road may be knocked down and converted into flats.

The bar, which is only open three days a week, has presented a planning application to convert the property into 16 flats and a shop.

Management have blamed supermarkets, TOWIE and music festivals for a recent decline in business, despite spending £200,000 on a refurbishment last year.

They have also blamed the smoking ban as a factor for a decline in business, too – despite the fact that the club opened in 2008, one year after the ban came into force nationwide.

The club replaced the iconic Castle pub, which was a popular music venue in the town for several decades.

The bar will continue to trade for the foreseeable future while the planning application is assessed.
