This week was Flashback Friday as That Friday Feeling looked back at the début albums of the chart toppers!
Maroon 5 – Songs About Jane (2002)
Their first single was called, Harder To Breathe and the second single from the album is possible the more well known track This Love. The song got to number 3 in the UK charts, being one of their highest chart toppers, with the more recent Payphone as the only number 1.
Justin Bieber – My World 2.0 (2010)
Bieber has had many collaborations, his first being on his debut single, Baby, with Ludcacris. He has also sung with Jayden Smith, Usher, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Carely Rae Jepson, Juicy J and of course most recently Skrillex. But back in 2010 he had a top ten hit with Sean Kingston called Eniee Meanie.
Chris Brown – Chris Brown (2005)
What a way to introduce yourself to the music world by putting out an album entitled by your own name. Well that’s what Chris Brown did in 2005 and it seems to have worked has he has done very well since. From his first single Run It which got to number two, he has had many chart entries and collaborations. Including his first number 1 Turn it Up Louder.
Beyonce –Dangerously in Love (2001)
While she was in girl band Destiny’s Child, Beyonce produced a solo album during a time where they focused on their own projects. Releasing her first solo album Dangerously In Love, which debuted at number 1, the first single Crazy in Love is an unforgettable track that is danced to in the clubs still to this date, with all the girls, and some guys, doing that booty popping move she did in the music video.
Sam Smith – In The Loney Hour (2014)
Sam Smith first burst onto the music scene by lending his vocals to Disclosure’s Latch in 2012 and then he had a number 1 with Naughty Boy and La La La. Then only just last year he released his debut album In the Lonely Hour which he has had many successful hits from including his second single which when to number one, Money on My Mind.
Jess Glynne – I Cry When I Laugh
Possibly the most recent debut album in the Charts is Jess Glynne’s I Cry when I Laugh which was released only a few months ago. Jess had already established herself as vocals on Clean Bandit’s Rather Be and Route 94’s My Love but now she can say she has her own singles. Including Hold My Hand, her recent Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself and her debut solo single Right Here.
Sigala – Easy Love (2015)
The debut single from Sigala hit number one a week after entering the charts at 71. Good things should come from this guy as he co wrote Ella Eyres collaboration with Sigma, Good Times.
Calvin Harris – I Created Disco (2007)
Back in 2007 the richest DJ in the world released what would make him the big superstar and rich man he is now, his first album I Created Disco. His first ever song, that he released into the charts, Acceptable in the 80’s, peaked at number 10.
Ellie Goulding – Lights (2010)
Starry Eyed was the follow up single for Ellie Goulding’s debut album and also became the most successful single peaking at number 4. But she has of course out down herself and got number ones for Burn and Love Me Like You Do.
