200 years of Essex History in one place

Yes, you were indeed landed with me for a second day whilst Michelle enjoys a well earned break!IMG_0236

A very busy show today since I was joined by not one, but two guests.

First off came Lesley Burrows, the Head of Community Services at St Francis Hospice who told us all about the events which form HOSPICE CARE WEEK which starts next Monday. The theme this year is “Connecting Care” which aims to highlight the many ways in which hospices work with many different organisations to help people affected by a life-limiting illness.

You can find out more about Hospice Care Week on Hospice UK’s website at https://www.hospiceuk.org/policy-campaigns/campaigns/hospice-care-week, and of course, the latest news from Saint Francis Hospice can be found at sfh.org.uk.

I was also pleased today to have the chance to talk to JOHN DEBENHAM who together with ANDREW SUMMERS has just completed the mammoth task of researching 2000 years of Essex History which has now been published in their new book THE ESSEX HUNDRED HISTORIES. Naturally with so many subjects covered in the book from the exploits of Queen Boudicca to wind turbines at Ford Dagenham and from the deeds of smugglers to natural disasters, we were able to cover only a few items in our chat today.

The book, priced at just £8.99 is available from all good booksellers and from the website https://www.essex100.com/

And we also had news of the man who has been refused a job in the police because he has tattoos on his arms – which it seems could offend other
officers!

I know you will be pleased to know that Michelle will be back on Monday and I’ll see you again soon.
