Kimbolton 2015 – first round

Phoenix FM-sponsored racing driver Lochlan Bearman has not had much time to reflect upon and enjoy his Championship winning season as the 1st round of the Hunts Kart Racing Club Championship took place on 11th January.

Practise day went well for the CooperMototsport team member and race day proved to be even better. In cold dry conditions Bearman dominated in the Minimax category.

Starting the first qualifying heat 5th on the grid, he made a sensational start making two decisive moves to lead by the second corner. Bearman led until the end of lap 5 when he was slip-streamed and passed but he coolly followed his competitor and made his move to re-take the lead on lap 9 and led to the finish.

He started the second qualifying heat in 11th place on the grid, and again made a courageous move around the outside of the first corner to emerge in 4th place as the karts streamed out of Willows Complex and along the straight towards the Bus Stop. On lap 2 he had passed 2 more and was second at the start of lap 3, and was leading by the time they started lap 4. Bearman was error free as he calmly stroked through the remainder of the race to win by nearly 3 seconds.

The qualifying heat results put him in pole position for the final.

Leading from the first corner Bearman, who turns 13 very soon, managed to break the tow of the two karts behind him and consistently pulled away, never looking to be in any danger to win by just over 3 seconds this time.

“It’s fantastic way to start the season”, said Lochlan. “Gary at CooperMotorsport got the set-up just right and I am pleased with the way I drove not making any mistakes and being very consistent. I think the new gloves and boots I got for Christmas made the difference he joked.”

Bearman’s next race is Round 1 of the Whilton Mill Championship which he won last season in Daventry on January 25th.

Bearman is looking to race in Europe this season or compete in the UK National Televised series and would love to hear from anyone that would like to get involved and support him in these ambitions.
