It’s Recycling Week this week from 16th-22nd June, and Brentwood Borough Council is going full steam ahead to give out freebies for the Clean Essex Campaign.
Recycling Officers will be on hand at a Recycling Roadshow on Friday 20th June at the Chapel Ruins in Brentwood High Street from 11am-1pm to provide hints and tips on how you can do your bit. You will also be able to get hold of limited edition car-litter bags and stock up on free orange recycling sacks and free food waste bags.
There will be a community litter pick undertaken by students from Brentwood County High School as part of their Community Day. It will involve representatives from Brentwood Area Neighbourhood Watch and Essex Watch who will give handy hints about making homes safe.
The events are part of the first Pan-Essex ‘Clean Essex Campaign’, that saw 14 authorities join forces from last week to tackle litter. The campaign is supported by Keep Britain Tidy, Essex County Council, RP2 media and The Highways Agency and is seeing authorities work alongside McDonalds, KFC and Dominos to raise awareness of litter and the risk of fines for those that offend.
Councillor William Lloyd, Chair of the Environment Committee, said: “Recycle Week highlights the importance of recycling and while the rates in Brentwood are good at more than 50%, we are determined to be ambitious and improve our recycling rate. The Clean Essex Campaign has been well-received and I am delighted that local businesses have agreed to support the campaign. The roadshow is a chance to stock up on recycling sacks and food waste bags if you are running low, while also getting advice and tips on what can and can’t be recycled.”
