A few weeks ago we heard about a chap who had placed the word “the” up for sale on e-Bay. Surprisingly he had already received a number of bids. What is more astonishing is that bids eventually topped £1200, all for a bit of paper on which the word “the” was written. Clearly some people have more money than sense, assuming of course that they fully understood just what they were bidding for!
However you don’t always get quite what you expect as a Malaysian man just discovered to his cost. Disappointed by some of his physical attributes, he sent off for a product advertised on line, which promised instant results. Having splashed out over £80, which whilst a good deal less than the word “the” would have set him back, he was nonetheless less than thrilled to receive a magnifying glass, plus instructions warning that use in direct sunlight, could result in injury! Lawyers suggested that without proof of purchase, there was little chance of any redress.
Being a Tuesday, in the second hour of the show, CARL MERRY presented another tale of witchcraft, dating back to the 1640’s. Today’s story concerned the
Disappearing Witch, Betty Potter, who’s ghost is still reputed to haunt the area known as Betty Potter’s Dip, near Boxted every year at midnight on the 21st Of October.
