We are thrilled to be performing this daring and exciting work alongside bandoneon player Julian Rowlands, who often plays on Strictly Come Dancing. He has also appeared on The One Show, Zingzillas, Surprise Surprise, and on Radio 4, 3 and 6.
Misa Tango, composed by the Argentine composer Martin Palmeri in 1995 /96 is a choral mass based on a tango sound. It is composed on the same movements as a mass in classical Latin, but uses the harmonics and syncopated rhythms of tango. It features the evocative instrument of tango, the bandoneon, as well as a mezzo-soprano soloist, a string orchestra and piano.
The programme also includes a solo piece performed by Julian, Karl Jenkin’s Benedictus from The Armed Man, Will Todd’s The Lord is my Shepherd and Carlos Gardel’s Por Una Cabeza.
