The Tillingham cloudburst

Being a Tuesday, I was pleased once more to be joined by Margaret Mills who took us back to a very wet TILLINGHAM, back in October 1859.

To be precise it was on the 22nd of October when Tillingham and the surrounding area was struck by a cloudburst like no other.

Tillingham itself was under 2 feet of water and by that evening had been completely cut off, whilst roads in Latchingdon, had vanished below the water line and in Purleigh a man was drowned in a “wall of water” whilst trying to rescue a pony.

If you missed it you can listen again here to Margaret’s description of the events of that fateful day: –

I very much hope to have your company again next week,
Scott
