INTERVIEW

ABOUT SHORT +  SWEET THEATRE AND FILM FESTIVAL

Short+Sweet Essex Theatre and Film Festival

It will be held in September 2022 at Brentwood theatre, Essex. Short+Sweet will
feature a variety of 10-minute plays and films, with talented actors, writers and directors, from all
over Essex, showcasing their skills.

Our vision is simple – a more creative world 10 minutes at a time!

Hazel has been involved in the festival for the past 7 years in both Dubai and Sydney, acting,
directing and stage management. She found the Short+Sweet festival to be a wonderful tool for
amateur writers, directors and actors who want to share their voice and talent in a professional
environment and venue.

The Short+Sweet Festival is the biggest 10 minute performing arts festival
in the world – with events in 34 cities across 12 countries. The festival has been entertaining
audiences for over 20 years, with the first S+S Theatre Festival in Sydney Australia in 2002. However,
it has yet to make its way to the UK, until now.

With the support of the Short+Sweet international family and local drama groups and actors, Hazel
has managed to finally launch the Short+Sweet Essex festival. Its goal is to become a powerful tool
for diversity in the entertainment industry, as well as providing a way to discover new or established
local talent by engaging more people in the live theatre experience. Unfortunately, the Covid
lockdown scuppered her first efforts, but she has persevered because she believes this to be a
wonderful opportunity for local theatres and film makers.

Whether you are someone who just fancies having a go, a seasoned director or an independent
theatre company, looking for a project to try out some new material, it’s open to anyone who wants
to have a go. There are no limits to the creativity or content it just has to be 10 minutes or under,
and its FREE to perform. No need to worry if you do not have a play in mind as we have a whole
script bank of original UK and International plays to choose from.

For audience members it is a unique opportunity to see local emerging, developing and established
artists to further their skills of creation and performance and enjoy a great night of entertainment
The Essex festival is a proud member of the Short+Sweet family – And we are delighted to be running
the first UK Short+Sweet Theatre & Film festival here in Essex.
