A happy new year to all of my listeners, and thanks for your support.

In our featured Football game on New Years Day, Rod Stringer’s Brentwood Town continued where they left off in 2021.

Beaten only once in the Isthmian North since the former Chelmsford City and Braintree Town manager took over as manager in October, the Blues won 3-0 away to Romford courtesy of goals from Ashley Nzala (2) and George Craddock.

And second-placed Canvey Island continued their push to regain the top spot in the division, with a 3-1 win away to Grays Athletic thanks to goals from Evans Kouassi, Tobi Tinubu and Odei Sorondo.

Kai Brown grabbed a consolation for Grays, who remain in the play-off spots.

Meanwhile in the Isthmian Premier League, Hornchurch beat Bowers & Pitsea 1-0 thanks to a superb goal from Micky Parcell.

And in the Premier League, West Ham United survived a nervous finish at Selhurst Park after going 3-0 up in the first half away to Crystal Palace.

Goals from Micail Antonio and a brace from Manuel Lanzini – the second from the penalty spot – gave the Hammers a 3-0 lead at the interval.

Palace replied through Odsonne Edouard and Michael Olise, but David Moyes’ men held on for the three points.
