Euro 2020 is turning into a remarkable football tournament!

On the show this week, we saw Denmark storm into a first-half lead in their quarter-final against the Czech Republic, and the Danes went on to win 2-1.

We now know of course that they will face England in Wednesday’s second semi-final, following the magnificent 4-0 win against Ukraine by Gareth Southgate’s men.

Closer to home, we saw a few of our local non-League sides back in action for the first time since last November, as they began their preparations for the 2021/22 season with their first pre-season friendlies.

These included our neighbours at the Brentwood Centre Brentwood Town, who won 4-0 at home to Sungate and their Isthmian North rivals Romford, who chalked up a fine 2-1 victory away to Isthmian Premier League side Haringey Borough.

In Tennis, I was following events at Wimbledon where Cameron Norrie – Britain’s last remaining Male Singles player – was beaten by veteran Roger Federer. The Swiss legend won by three sets to one to seal his place in the last 16.

And into the last 16 of the Women’s Singles is British teenager Emma Raducanu, who put in a fantastic performance against Sorana Cirstea to go through and looks a real prospect.

In local cricket, Chelmsford remain the pacesetters at the top of the Essex League 1st XI Premier Division, after beating visitors Brentwood by 25 runs at Chelmer Park.
