Is that buried treasure, I’ve found?

On today’s programme we heard about the man who whilst working in his garden, stumbled on what at first sight, appeared to be a secret box.

What would you do? Well Tony Huisman didn’t hesitate.

He proceeded to dig with ever greater determination hoping to find a way to open it.

After digging for a while he eventually uncovered a handle.

More concentrated digging revealed a second handle.

He kept going and got it cleaned up to the point where he thought he might be able to lift it out.

Finding it too heavy but still hoping to be rewarded with buried treasure he brought in the big guns.

Using a massive cleaver he was finally rewarded when the lid came off and the secret was finally revealed that he had uncovered the entrance to a septic tank!

Seemingly he hadn’t been aware of its existence and neither had his landlord who had lived there for 2 years before Tony took up residence 6 years ago.

Not having been cleaned for at least 8 years the state of the contents and the inevitable gaseous honk that Tony and his neighbours now have to live with before he can arrange for the attendance of the lavender cart to clean it out can only be guessed at!

Not causing a stink at all I was joined as per usual in the second hour of today’s programme by Margaret Mills, who this week chose to talk about a gentlemanly highwayman, Frank Osborne, who for a time around 1680, worked the roads between Colchester and Harwich.

See you again next week,
