A somewhat depleted afternoon of sporting action this week, with a large number of football fixtures and one race meeting falling victim to the freezing weather conditions.

But I still had some action to discuss. In football Southend United moved out of the EFL League Two relegation zone, after picking up a very good point away to league leaders Cambridge United in a goalless draw.

Meanwhile in the National League South, Concord Rangers also earned a point as James Blanchfield’s late equaliser earned them a 1-1 draw at Eastbourne Borough.

But in the same league Chelmsford City had an afternoon to forget, going down 4-1 in their away match at Oxford City.

In Rugby Union’s Six Nations, we saw England put their opening defeat against Scotland behind them as they comfortably got past Italy at Twickenham, winning by 41 points to 18.
