World Record Smashed – Challenging MND

CHALLENGING MND TEAM SMASH THAMES PEDALO GUINNESS WORLD RECORD

-Feat completed in 2 days, 15 hours and 2 minutes – 1 day and 21 hours less than previous record

-Led by Alex Gibson, diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2018

-£23,437 raised so far to help MND sufferers to complete challenges to create lasting memories

Essex, 30 August 2020: The Challenging MND Team which set off on Wednesday 26th August from Lechlade has totally smashed the previous Guinness World Record to travel the length of the Thames (128 miles) in a pedalo.*

The team made it to Teddington Lock in driving rain at 10:19pm on Friday in just 2 days, 15 hours and 2 minutes after setting off from Lechlade on Wednesday morning at 7am.  This is 1 day, 21 hours and 47 minutes faster than the record set previously. **

So far the team has raised £23,437 for Challenging MND, a charity which aims to help those living with Motor Neurone Disease complete challenges and fulfil dreams to create lasting memories. To donate towards Alex and Challenging MND’s latest challenge, please go to https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/GuinnessWorldRecordThamesPedaloChallenge.

Alex Gibson, Challenging MND founder and living with MND himself said: “The team absolutely smashed it and I am so proud of everyone involved, together we have rewritten the records and created history. It’s not too late to donate – we have raised over £20,000 so far but the more we raise the more people with MND we can help.

“Thank you to everyone involved, everyone who came to the river and of course all who donated. We are completely overwhelmed by the support and interest. Along with making a superb new Guinness World Record, we hope this feat raises awareness for motor neurone disease and puts Challenging MND on the map to help establish us as the go to charity for creating memories for people affected by MND.”

Alex aged 42, founded Challenging MND following his own diagnosis. Throughout his life Alex has had a huge interest in sport and fitness, representing Great Britain in the decathlon and playing rugby for Barking; Brentwood; and Loughborough University.  So far Alex has raised over £170,000 for charity.  Alex was joined for the Guinness World Record Pedalo Challenge by Alun Thomas, Joe Reed and Andy Long (patron of Challenging MND and former England Rugby Union Player).
