I guess we all know the old story about the Emperor with no clothes.

Well keeping to a similar theme, Aberdeen based student, Ruairi Gray, 22, bought a pineapple to tease a friend – quite what the tease was all about is unclear, but whatever it was, it seems to have had all the impact of a dud firework, so stuck with an unwanted pineapple he dumped it on top of an empty glass display case in the centre of an exhibition at Robert Gordon University to see how long it would take for someone to remove it.

Pineapple exhibit

Returning 4 days later Ruairi was amazed to see that the pineapple had been placed inside a glass display box and remained in place until the art exhibition closed.

Shocked by the turn of events Ruairi asked an art lecturer whether the piece was a real exhibit and was told in no uncertain terms that  ‘Of course it’s real, you can see what they were trying to do with the top of the pineapple and the glass.’

The exhibition called “Look Again”, challenged visitors to ‘look at the places and spaces around us through fresh eyes’.

Sally Reaper, Look Again Festival Director said: ‘The 2017 festival has been really successful – we had more than 30,000 attendees and we’re already looking forward to next year.’

Perhaps I could try exhibiting a half read book – open midway through a chapter – or how about an un-emptied commode? If that won a prize I can imagine it might cause a bit of a stink!

In the second hour I was joined once more by Julian Whybra for the next instalment of our feature on the Kings of Essex.
