Phoenix FM’s fishing presenter Robin Driscoll has hailed the station’s first Charity Fishing Match as a great success.
The event, which took place at Puddledock Farm Fishery in Upminster, was won by experienced Essex matchman Graham Dack.
The anglers raised £472 for Saint Francis Hospice and Essex Air Ambulance.
Robin said, “We’re very pleased with our first event and hope it will go from strength to strength.
Robin, who is secretary of the Billericay and District Angling Club, has been a regular on Phoenix FM for six months with his show “It’s All About Fishing In Essex”.
He explained, “there are virtually no radio shows dedicated to the subject despite the fact that fishing has more participants than any other sport in the UK, with over three million people regularly taking part.”
Support for the event was on hand from Robin’s brother Rod, who currently presents the Friday night programme “The Vintage 50s and 60s show” on the Brentwood radio station.
It’s All About Fishing In Essex is currently broadcast as a podcast which can be heard at phoenixfm.com.
