The Clean Break Theatre Company was formed in 1979 by two women prisoners who believed that the theatre could bring the hidden stories of imprisoned women to a wider audience. Over 35 years later they are going from strength to strength, whilst continuing to work towards effecting profound and positive change in the lives of women offenders.
We spoke to Róisín McBrinn about the plays being shown at this year’s Latitude Festival, Including Joanne which is directed by Róisín and performed by Olivier Award nominated actor Tanya Moodie. The other play we discussed was Sweatbox, which takes place in a prison van, located in the Faraway Forest.
