On today’s show I was very fortunate to be joined by TIM SHEPPARD of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. There are still a lot of people who do not realise that the RNLI is wholly funded by public donations and has no official backing from government. If you would like to contribute to the Offshore Boathouse Modifications appeal just visit this website: – https://www.southendlifeboat.org/.
You can listen to all that Tim had to say about the valuable work that the RNLI does for us, what it costs and how you can help here: – RNLI Interview 10th August
A few weeks ago we learnt about a monster fish lurking in a Billericay pond and keeping to the theme of monsters, in the
second hour of today’s show, the subject chosen by Frances Clamp for this week’s Bygones feature was Thomas Wood, who bore the nickname of The Monster Miller of Billericay. He lived between 1719 and 1783 and it appears was known all over the world. He was especially renowned for a living on an abstemious diet of a home made bread pudding and giving up all forms of alcohol which resulted in an amazing improvement in his health.
You can listen again to what Frances told me right here:- Bygones 6th August
Don’t forget that as from next week your PACKED LUNCH will be super-sized to 3 hours. See you next week.
