A bit down in the mouth or bitten off more than they could chew

The last Tuesday in July – my how the year is marching on!

False TeethAnd being a Tuesday I was again joined by Frances Clamp for our Brentwood & Billericay Bygones feature. But before all that we looked at a couple of stories concerning false teeth. The first concerned a woman who attempted an unsuccessful bank raid in order to get enough money to buy some teeth she couldn’t get on welfare. Unsuccessful because one of the bank clerks recognised her as a member of the congregation of the local church. The second story concerned a lady who had a set of false teeth which she took out whilst enjoying tea and biscuits in the garden of her care home in Bexhill on Sea. It seems that one of the seagulls she was providing with bits of biscuit, took a fancy to her teeth and flew off with them. Teeth and mouth were later reunited after staff at the home found the gnashers lodged in the roof.

And now back to Frances, who’s subject this week was the Priory which was located on Brentwood High StreetThe Priory from 1852 to around 1936. Unfortunately this was not the Priory House about which I had found some information. That property dated from the 16th century and is pictured here but of the house which was the subject of Frances’ piece today, I have been unable to find any trace.

Listen to what Frances told me here:- Bygones 30th July

Busy week for me this week as I’m back on this show on both Thursday and friday this week, so see you again soon.
