On this week’s sport show we reached a major turning point in the Ashes 1st Test from Trent Bridge. During the show England had turned a finely poised match into one where they ended the day as more likely favourites, partly due to some fine bowling from Graeme Swann. Australia finishing the day at 174 for 6 and needing a further 137 runs to reach their victory target at the end of day 4.
Local cricket was featured as always. A day after this year’s Lashings match, Brentwood CC taking on Shenfield and losing the match by 2 wickets. Shenfield’s reply to Brentwood’s 317 for 9 over 64 over’s proving to be too much as they reached 320 for 8 as the evening action drew to a close.
Gerry Smith brought us action from the local friendly football match between Billericay and Romford. The team from outside the M25 winning 2-1 on home turf.
The other sporting news included the world of tennis following Andy Murray’s win at Wimbledon. We featured updates from athletics, the women’s football Euro championships and motor sport as well as previewing the local events for the next few weekends and playing some good summer music in between.
