TV for The Weekend
On the eve of the Census weekend Andrew Marr explores the state of the country in This Is Britain on BBC 2 at 9pm. He takes a look at past records to discover how Britain has changed, examining fierce debates surrounding immigration and identity, and shifts in attitudes toward relationships and marriage. He also asks why the upper class seems to have largely disappeared, and compares life expectancy between residents in Glasgow and Hull
One for the plus box on BBC 4 at 9pm its a recording of Anna Nicole from the Royal Opera House. The opera focuses on her marriage to billionaire J Howard Marshall II and relationship with lawyer Howard Stern. Created by composer Mark-Anthony Turnage and librettist Richard Thomas, the darkly comic work is conducted by Antonio Pappano with Eva-Maria Westbroek taking the title role.
Tonight on BBC 3 at 9pm sees the first in the series of new comedy White Van Man, starring Will Mellor as a good-natured man who takes over the family handyman business and inherits all the difficulties that come with it, including a liability of an assistant.
Saturday evening starts off with a bang for the children of the house as Jurassic Park III (2001) hits the small screen at 6.15 on ITV2 an Action adventure sequel, starring Sam Neill, William H Macy, Tea Leoni and Alessandro Nivola. Including FYI Daily
It is the last in the series of Harry Hill’s TV Burp at 7.10 on ITV1 later on Quantum of Solace is Premiered on the same channel at 9pm
On BBC 2 a new three-part documentary, Goldie’s Band: By Royal Appointment, follows the DJ and a team of industry experts as they select 12 young musicians from around the nation, who will perform at Buckingham Palace, in the presence of guest of honour Prince Harry. In the first episode, Goldie is joined on his search by composer Guy Chambers, jazz artist Soweto Kinch, singer-songwriter Cerys Matthews and MC Ms Dynamite
There is nothing like a classic movie to finish off the weekend and on Sunday evening the original Oliver! is on Channel 5 at 4.10 and there is also Back to the Future on ITV2 at 6.45
If you have been following Dancing on Ice it is the final on ITV1 at 7.40. It is also the last in the series of Wonders of the Universe, Professor Brian Cox reveals how the unique properties of light provide an insight into the origins and evolution of both mankind and the universe. He charts the importance of light in the development of the world’s ancient civilisations, and explains how the speed of light allows the measurement of both distance and time – before pinpointing one of the most important moments in the evolution of life on Earth. Its on BBC 2 at 9pm.
