THE BLUES made it six league wins out of six with a comprehensive victory against in-form Brightlingsea Regent at the AGP Arena.
Billericay had the best of the opening exchanges with Evans and Cunnington going close and Theophanous smashing the ball against the bar, all in the first five minutes. Swaine then had an effort cleared off the line.
The Blues took the lead after 24 minutes with a spectacular overhead kick from Cunnington.
Robinson and Swaine also went close but Billericay were unable to add to their tally and went in one goal up at half time.
Manager Glenn Tamplin made two changes at half time, bringing on Bricknell and Ellull for Cunnington and Evans.
Brightlingsea, who had also won their last three league games, started the second half brighter with Rees denied by diving Julian in the Billericay goal.
Kelly missed a good chance for the visitors after good work by Gard. At the other end, Theophanus went close with another overhead effort.
Jake Robinson doubled the Blues’ lead on 62 minutes with a fantastic volley from 20 yards.
Billericay continued to press with Bricknell hitting the post and their persistance paid off with Robinson getting his second to make it 3-0 on 84 minutes.
Jermaine Pennant made it 4-0 on 90 minutes with a well-taken free kick to score his first league goal for the club.
Nearly 900 people made it to Blunts Wall Road on a cold Tuesday night, continuing the club’s recent good turnout. Only 117 turned up to the club’s home game on the corresponding Tuesday 12 months ago.
The result means the Blues go three points clear at the top after nearest rivals Leiston drew 0-0 with Harlow Town. Leiston drop to third, level on points with Hendon and Wingate & Finchley who both also enjoyed wins tonight.
