A Fevered Feast of Rock ‘N Roll

I was thrilled to be joined by Rock ‘N Roll/Rockabilly band FEVER. Fever is made up of Wil, his son Billy and Nick who popped in to chat to us briefly last November when they appeared at the Vintage Fair at the Brentwood Centre, but this time we put them to work and got them to do a live session for us. Two of the numbers they performed for us – “OH YEAH” and “ALL THE TIME” – were originals written by Wil. The third song was their version of the Carl Perkins original “MOVIE MAGG”.

Wil and Billy are from Wickford whilst Nick is from across the water in Dartford.

The guys all started playing and singing very early in life. Wil started at the age of 7 when his father was let down by his drummer and then history repeated itself when his son, Billy also got thrown in at the deep end when Wil was let down by his drummer. With just a couple of days notice, Billy was obliged to play a for a whole evening at a gig in Wales. Lead guitarist, Nick picked up his first guitar at the age of 10 but had been hooked on music from much earlier on when he persuaded his father to smuggle him into venues to see artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Little Richard.

If you’d like to see the guys live make a date to get down to the South Benfleet Social Club, 8, Vicarage Road, Benfleet where they will be appearing in the event,  BASS SLAPPING BOOGIE on Friday 8th February.

Meantime listen again to our chat and the music session right here: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Fever.mp3|titles=Fever]

Now Frances Clamp let me down this week, claiming to be snowed in so I was forced to step in at the last minute with a brief look at THE THATCHERS ARMS in Brentwood. You can hear what I came up with right here: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Bygones-22nd-January1.mp3|titles=Bygones 22nd January]

I don’t know if it’s just me but this month has seemed almost endless but mercifully it looks like the snow has finally left us. So I’ll see you next week for the first show in February which is at least a short month. Roll on Spring!

All the best,

Scott
