Aveley attacking midfielder Jon Benton has signed for Vanarama National League side Solihull Moors.

The 22-year-old made the permanent switch to Parkside in the summer following a successful loan spell from Southend United last season as he helped them secure promotion to the National League South.

Due to Southend United’s ongoing transfer embargo, Danny Scopes retained Benton’s services and he scored seven goals for the Millers this term.

His impressive form for Aveley has caught the eye of Solihull, who sit in third place, and he could make his debut against his former side as they lock horns with Southend this weekend.

Upon signing at the Damson Park, Benton expressed his excitement at arriving in the West Midlands.

“I am very excited,” he told the club’s official YouTube channel.

“It is a great club and I am very excited to get here, crack on and do well.”

Benton also spoke on potentially making his debut against a club where he began his footballing career when he was eight-years-old.

“It is good to be back in full-time football and it is a great club, it is a massive club,” he said.

“I spent most of my life there so it’s going to feel weird going back but it’s going to be a good experience.”
