Harrison Day: “We will be playing every game as if it’s the last”

Concord Rangers striker Harrison Day is looking to play a key role in their fight for survival in the Isthmian Premier Division.

The Beach Boys have struggled following relegation from the Vanarama National League South last term, looking to avoid their second consecutive relegation as they currently sit in 21st place and six points adrift from safety.

Day knows the tough task that is on their hands in the remaining weeks of the season.

“The season has definitely been tough,” he said.

“But we have started to put good performances together and the results will start coming through.

“We will be playing every game as if it’s the last, in every game we need to get points from – nothing more needs to be said.”

Concord started the campaign with seven losses in a row in the league, culminating in them sitting at the foot of the table.

Day feels they have moved on from their early season struggles.

“We started the season slow with players not committed to how the gaffer (Sammy Collins) wanted us to play,” he admitted.

“However, the recent performances have shown that everyone is buying into what he is saying and that’s why we have started doing better than we were.

“We’ve added to the squad and still are and I think that has definitely helped bring depth and more experienced players to the squad.”

Day shone in Concord’s U18’s side where he netted over 50 goals last season which also included a successful spell at Catholic United, scoring ten goals in 15 appearances.

The young frontman has been looking to continue his goal-scoring exploits into this season. “Being in Concord U18’s was a good achievement of mine and to net over 50 goals was really pleasing,” he stated.

“I couldn’t have done it without the team we had and the season we had.

“My aim was always to try to push for the first-team and I got rewarded with a couple of appearances in the National League South last season which I’m forever grateful for.

“I’m glad I’ve taken the scoring form into this season, helping the team at every opportunity I can.”

The Beach Boys had an opportunity to climb closer to survival at the start of the month with the visit of fellow strugglers Cheshunt but they fell to a 3-0 defeat.

They have the chance to make up for that loss on Saturday as they lock horns again and Day is seeking revenge after that defeat. “We all know we weren’t at it against Cheshunt,” he said.

“The performance wasn’t acceptable and we know that we are going to put it right when we play them at their place.”

Concord’s main aim for the rest of the season is to stay in the Isthmian Premier Division.

Day is aiming to do just that while contributing to the side with his goals.

“Coming to the business end of the season, I aim to keep Concord up,” he claimed.

“The team has been a big part of my progress and I’m not going to let them go down.

“Personally, my aim is to score as many goals as possible from now to the end of the season.”
