Braintree Town have bolstered their attacking options ahead of the run-in with the addition of well-travelled forward Freddie Sears following his departure from Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 34-year-old made 23 appearances in all competitions since his arrival in September but only scored one goal.

Having started his career at West Ham United where he made just under 50 first-team appearances, Sears had loan spells at Coventry City, Scunthorpe United and Colchester United where he joined the latter permanently ahead of the 2012/13 campaign.

He spent three seasons at the JobServe Community Stadium before heading to Ipswich Town, making over 200 appearances in Suffolk in a six-year spell.

The former England U19 international returned to the U’s ahead of the 2021/22 campaign where after being a regular in his first season back, he featured on a less frequent basis last term as Colchester struggled near the bottom of the Sky Bet League Two table.

Sears signed for Dagenham in September but failed to demonstrate his goal-scoring expoits at the Chigwell Construction Stadium with his only goal coming in his first start in a 3-2 defeat to Aldershot Town.

The Iron currently sit in fifth place in the Vanarama National League South and have Dartford visiting Cressing Road tonight.
