Woodman joins Shrimpers from QPR on loan

Southend United completed the loan signing of Deon Woodman from Queen’s Park Rangers ahead of yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Wealdstone.

The 21-year-old was a regular in the Hoops’ development side and his first loan move came with Dulwich Hamlet at the end of last season.

Having been part of QPR’s pre-season trip to Austria in the summer, the 6’ 5” defender joined Vanarama National League side Wealdstone at the start of February on loan but returned to Loftus Road last week after making only two appearances.

He was an unused substitute in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with the Stones.

Speaking to the club’s website, Woodman is looking forward to getting more experience in senior football under his belt.

“I’m really excited to join,” he said.

“I know the fans here are really up for it for every game and I’m just really excited to show what I can do.

“Going out on loan is a really good learning experience.

“It’s different to academy football playing for three points each week in front of the fans that love their club, so it’s definitely a big experience for me and hopefully I can get some minutes and show what I’m about.”

The Shrimpers are next in action with the visit of Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.
