A welcome home surprise!

This afternoon we heard all about the holiday maker who returned home from his break to find a bigger break waiting for him as soon as he got off the plane at Birmingham Airport.

Yes sadly this is just what happened to 36-year old Jay Tranter.

He flew off on a 5-day break leaving his car in the care of an airport parking firm who’s advertisements claim that vehicles will be stored in a 24-hour monitored secure site.

So you can imagine his surprise (and more) at finding that his £65,000 Mercedes AMG GT had been stripped for parts.

It has now been established that after handing over his keys, the vehicle had been driven down a gravel track a few miles away from the airport where thieves had removed the lights, number plate,  bonnet and other engine parts.

Mr Tranter had paid £52.94 to CAR PARKING BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT for a meet and greet service with secure parking, but now has no idea if he will be able to afford any new insurance premium that may be demanded.

Manager of the airport parking firm, AMJID KHAN confirmed that the car had indeed been vandalised on the 9th July, but since he himself had only been appointed on the 10th July, after the firm had been taken over by a new silent partner, he could do no more than submit an incident report to police.

Next time perhaps use the official airport car park!

For our Bygones feature today, Margaret Mills regaled the story of a near riot which ensued at one of the hostelries in Rayleigh back in the year 1805.

It seems that trouble erupted over a disputed bill for food and drink, originally ordered for 40 people whilst in the event only 7 people turned up to enjoy the repast.
