Rostropovich’s Recovery
Melbourne Cup racer Rostropovich is on the mend, according to his trainer, after suffering from a cracked pelvis in this year’s race. It is now recovering well, bearing all of its weight on four legs. Fans were devasted when the five-year-old gelding broke down in the 3200m race and vets announced him lame, as there were fears he would be put down. However, after three days in care, trainer David Hayes revealed there is still hope for the athlete and he is reportedly very comfortable now. Squouateur Suffers Fatal Injury at Musselburgh
A race at Musselburgh was voided after eight-year-old Squouateur unfortunately suffered a fatal injury during hr IJF Handicap Hurdle. Trained by Ben Haslam, Squouateur made a wrong move on the paddock bend on the first circuit of the content and was immediately seen to by the on-site veterinary team. The race was stopped, and jockeys were altered that they needed to pull up their horses when they approached the straight. Once the stewards were satisfied that there was no room for the race to continue, it was declared void.
Tiger Roll Out Until February
Two-time Grand National winner Tiger Roll has suffered an injury that will rule him out of action until at least February, although connections are confident he will make a full recovery in time for Cheltenham Festival in March. He has developed a small chip in a joint which will need to be removed and this will leave him unable to race over the Christmas period. Trainer Gordon Elliot has reportedly said that it’s not an ideal situation but he hopes to have him back for the Boyne Hurdle and on to Cheltenham afterwards, all being well.
Capeland Disqualified from Ascot
Capeland’s owner has stated that they were shocked to see their chaser being barged off the course and disqualified in the Listed 2m2f handicap chase at Ascot at the beginning of the month. The seven-year-old, trained by Paul Nicholls, was contesting the lead when they were pushed between the fence by Diego Du Charmil. Diego Du Charmil was announced the winner and Capeland was disqualified after finishing fifth.
Tendon Problem Rules Out Glen Rocco
Promising staying chaser Glen Rocco has been ruled out of the entire season after a tendon injury that he sustained at Kempton. The eight-year-old enjoyed an impressive season up until this month, with a great distance covered the previous month, but he finished sixth out of ten runners in the three-mile contest and trainer Nick Gifford reported that he won’t be out until this time next year. There are still hopes for Glen Rocco to develop into a future Grand National candidate, so his connections are hoping that after a restful period he will be out for the National the year after next.
