Anagram Records Trophy
The Olympian League will provide one of the Semi Finalists in this season’s Anagram Records Trophy after Catholic United did the business against Old Bradwell United. The holders rocked up at their opponents with 12 players, but registered a 3-0 win that sees them through to the last four. Brad Vaughan, Aaron Baldwin and Tom Hollingsworth all scored in the first half to see their side a step closer to retaining the trophy. FC Hamlets were knocked out however by Ware Sports. Charlie Heatly scored a brace for Hamlets but it was their opponents who go onwards after recording a 3-2 win.
Senior League Cup
Buckhurst Hill’s quest for a potential treble was burst on Saturday as Chingford Athletic caused a shock by knocking out the Premier Division leaders. The Division Two side are now in the Semi Finals themselves after goals from Gary Murray and Will Gleeson won the game 2-1. Sam Sollosi scored the Buckhurst Hill goal, who now have the Olympian Premier Division title and the Essex Premier Cup to aim for. But it was Chingford’s day on Saturday. Bishop’s Stortford Swifts are also into the last four after goals from Charles Brown (2), Joe McEvoy and Mark Robinson saw them overcome Kelvedon Hatch 4-1.
Denny King Memorial Under 21 Cup
The First Leg between Harold Wood Athletic and Academy Soccer finished 3-3 which means the Second Leg is finally poised. Max Shepherd, Charlie Dann and Joe Eldridge notched for Harold Wood, while Academy replied via a Lewis Hill brace and Harry Barham.
Premier Division
Harold Wood Athletic failed to wrestle the leadership off Buckhurst Hill on Saturday. With the Premier Division leaders on Senior Cup duty meant that Harold Wood had the chance to go top if they were able to win their game at Springfield. The 2016/17 Olympian Champions are sitting at the lower end of the table these days, but they took all the points with a 1-0 victory. Springfield sit one place above the drop zone but have a large enough points lead over the bottom two, who in any case failed to add any points on the board as they both lost. Great Baddow lost 2-0 at Sungate, which maybe pushes them to safety, as Jermaine Purchas’ brace now means Sungate have a 12 points advantage over bottom-placed Great Baddow. Manford Way meanwhile did their cause no favours as they lost 1-0 at home to Old Southendian: Matt Tonking supplying the goal. Charlie Nichols and George Nash both notched braces for Hutton, who went on to beat Canning Town 4-2. The hosts replied via Neil Barrett and an own goal.
Division One
A Mitch Day brace for leaders Shenfield AFC was added to by Sam Bubb and Jordan Elliot, with Rayleigh Town Res. being beaten 4-2 which keeps them in the relegation zone. Snaresbrook also registered an away win as Harry Prince and Josh Woodcock laid down the goals in their 2-0 success at Ramsden Scotia. That result keeps Snaresbrook second, three points behind Shenfield but with three games in hand. It also means that Ramsden Scotia’s promotion hunt has taken a slight knock. Basildon Town remain third and keep themselves on the tails of the top two after a 2-1 win at Herongate Athletic. Alfie Phillips and Jimmy Markham were their marksmen. Tom Lakin, Jack Chatterway and Luke Seaton were the Galleywood scorers in a 3-0 away win at Ongar Town; while Sam Adams scored twice for Old Chelmsfordians in their 5-0 away win at May & Baker E.C. Res. Martin Mixture, Tom Garey and Paul Tiffen.
Division Two
A Paul Carr brace alongside a Ross Dipple goal saw Division Two leaders Toby register a 3-2 win at Harold Wood Athletic Res. Lakeside kept themselves in the promotion mix after winning 4-1 at Ryan. Drew Klessa-Smith scored a hat-trick with Sam Pettit the other scorer.
Division Three
Westhamians added to the points tally without playing on Saturday. The Division Three leaders were awarded the game after their opponents Old Chelmsfordians Res. couldn’t fulfil the fixture. The chasing pack kept themselves in the hunt after winning their games. Third-placed Academy Soccer added some goals to the tally as well, rifling six past Roydon without reply. The game was goalless at half-time, but Luke Jones opened the account in the second half and from there Rhys Wilson notched a hat-trick, with Sam Parish also scoring twice. Leigh Town scored four at Hutton Res. with George Darby (2), Zac Mashford and Shane Cooper the marksmen. Leigh kept a clean sheet as well, with the win keeping them fourth, but within touching distance of the promotion places. Further back in fifth is Old Southendian Res. and they registered a 2-1 win over Laindon Orient, with Greg Malford and Andy Turner the scorers. Laindon Orient’s reply was via a James Shadwell penalty. Basildon Town Res. beat White Ensign Res. 2-0 with the goals being supplied by Alex Shields and Jake Bridgeman.
