Senior League Cup
Chingford Athletic needed extra time before they could finally put away Newham United, with Eric Kelly firing home four of Chingford’s goals. Mickey Mesmin and Gary Murray supplied the other two and they now go on to face a home tie with Premier Division Springfield in the next round. Leigh Town also needed extra time in their tie with Westhamians; in the end Zac Mashford bagged the goal that sees Leigh through, where FC Hamlets await after they were able to win their game with Galleywood 3-0. Charlie Heatly scored twice with Harrison Somerset-Butler also notching.
Premier Division
Joel Brown ended Buckhurst Hill’s winning run; his goal was enough to see Bishop’s Stortford Swifts claim a 1-0 win over the Premier Division leaders, who nonetheless remain top despite this result. Harold Wood Athletic have made a strong start themselves and their 3-1 win over Manford Way keeps them third. King Amieye, Michael Burton and Robert Whitnell supplied the goals that keep Harold Wood within touching distance of the leaders; Manford Way meanwhile remain rooted to the foot of the table and are no winless in eight. The hangover continues for Catholic United as last season’s Premier Division Champions suffered yet another loss that keeps them in the drop zone. A Sean Mooney brace plus a goal from Luke Nickles saw Canning Town through with a 3-1 win that moves them up to sixth. Dave Wareham scored twice for Springfield in their 7-2 away success as Leigh Ramblers; the other goals came via Dave Morgan, Ollie Gentry, Ross Lamb, Zach Davidson and Jack Mundy. Jamie Selby-Knight scored both the Leigh goals. Dane Nelson and Ryan Baxter scored a goal apiece for Great Baddow in a 2-2 home draw with Sungate; Jake Clarke scored twice for the visitors. Old Southendian are unbeaten in three after Saturday’s affair with Hutton ended in a 3-0 win in their favour and as a result they are now up to ninth, pushing Hutton down to eleventh in the process.
Division One
Leaders Snaresbrook beat third-placed Ongar Town on Saturday courtesy of Ryan Barker-Francis, Anton Ostrii and Tyriquee Solomon. The visitors scored their goals via Ben Polley and James Stevens, but have slipped down to fourth as Basildon Town move up to third after a 6-2 away win at Frenford Res. The hosts actually took the lead twice, but Alfie Phillips equalised on both occasions before completing his hat-trick in the second half. That period also saw Basildon Town make sure of the win as James Humphreys, Billy Markham and Sener Suavi also put their names down on the score sheet. Ramsden Scotia meanwhile remain right on Snaresbrook’s tail after they beat Shenfield AFC 4-3. Ryan Leddra supplied a hat-trick with Antony Driscoll also hitting the target, and the win means that goal difference is what currently separates the top two in Division One. Shenfield’s goals were credited to Ben Absolon, James Bigmore and Jordan Elliott.
Division Two
Dom Binns scored all four of Shoebury Town’s goals as they kept their grip on the Division Two leadership. Ryan simply had no answer to the Shoebury talisman that has scored twenty three goals already this season. The visitors were able to score once themselves and sit ninth after this defeat. Shoebury have a six point lead over second-placed Runwell Sports who had a field day on Saturday. They faced-off against bottom-placed May & Baker E.C. ‘A’ and annihilated them 15-0. Jae Lovell lead the charge with four; Declan Clarke also fired home a hat-trick; a brace for Charlie Adams; one goal apiece for Carey Wallace, Scott Mortlock, John Smithwick and Charlie Gerada who was also making his Runwell Sport debut. And Lakeside also brought their big guns with them as they beat Rochford Town 7-1. Drew Klessa-Smith and Connor White both scored braces; Luke Quinton, Harry Hearn and Jamie Jarvis also beat the Rochford ‘keeper. A total whitewash was only prevented by Grant Lye who supplied the Rochford consolation. Beacon Hill Rovers beat Toby 3-2 with their goals coming via Charlie Brewer, Dave Howard and Matt Wilsher. Toby were defeated for the first time in the league despite the best intentions of Justin Clarke and Ross Dipple who scored for the visitors.
Division Three
With Division Three Leaders Westhamians on Senior Cup duties meant that the chasing pack had a chance to play catch-up: Academy Soccer and Laindon Orient both duly did so. Both collected 4-1 wins on the road with Academy Soccer seeing off Old Chelmsfordians Res., who were handed the lead by Max Green. Dom Cooper levelled up before handing Academy Soccer a 2-1 lead at the break. Sam Parish and Luis Ruiz then scored in the second half to move Academy Soccer into second place, three points behind with a game in hand on the leaders. Laindon Orient meanwhile move up to third after a Sam Lake brace, plus strikes from Rodney Sarsah-Wilson and James Shadwell from the spot did more than enough to overcome Wakering Sports and the goal that they claimed via Terry Horner. Adam Smith handed White Ensign Res. a 1-0 lead over lowly Roydon, but the visitors gave it a real go and were back on terms early in the second half when Nader Benzid notched the equaliser. Harrison Somerset-Butler then fired White Ensign back into the lead; a lead which was then extended by Lubon Wyatt. Ten minutes from time and Nader Benzid had pulled it back for Roydon, but there was to be no further goals with the 3-2 win moving them up to fourth, with Roydon remaining down at the foot of the table in ninth.
