Football: Local Sides Round-up (Through the Divisions) – February 11th 2017

Scott W reports with a round-up of all of today’s results (Feb 11th ‘17) from the local sides we look out for on Phoenix Sport, from West Ham Utd all the way to Bowers & Pitsea & Brentwood Town.

West Ham Utd 2  – 2   West Brom    (Premier League)

The Hammers were held by the in-form Baggies at the London Stadium. The visitors took the lead early-on through Nacer Chadli. After going into half-time a goal down, Slaven Bilic’s side levelled through Sofiane Feghouli just past the hour. Manuel Lanzini put the home side ahead late-on before at the death, Gareth McAuley got the final touch to grab a point for Tony Pulis’ men.  West Ham have now only lost three of their last ten league matches, dropping to 10th place. West Brom stay 8th.

Aston Villa   0  –  1   Ipswich Town       (EFL Championship)

The Tractor Boys struck late-on to grab all three points at Villa Park. On-loan Emyr Huws got the winner for Mick McCarthy’s side. Villa are now winless in seven league matches, falling to 16th in the table. Ipswich by contrast, rise to 13th spot, ten points above the bottom three.

Millwall 1  –  0  Southend Utd             (EFL League One)

The Blues suffered a rare blip on-the-road as they narrowly lost to the Lions at the New Den. The visitors were reduced to ten men when Will Atkinson received a straight red card just past the half-hour mark. After the break, Fred Onyedinma grabbed the only goal of the game to give play-off chasing Millwall all three points. The Lions move up to 6th place in the table, and are now unbeaten in nine league matches. Phil Brown’s men fall to 8th place, only one point behind today’s opponents.

Colchester Utd  2  –  1 Barnet               (EFL League Two)

The U’s picked up another important win at the Colchester Community Stadium. The home side went ahead courtesy of Kurtis Guthrie’s goal on 18 minutes. Just before the break, Brennan Dickenson doubled their advantage. The visitors could only add a consolation late-on through John Akinde as John McGreal’s side held on to take all three points. The U’s have now won their last five home league matches, and sit in 9th spot, just two points away from the play-off places. Barnet lost ground on the top seven today, they’re in 12th spot.

Yeovil Town  1  –  1  Leyton Orient    (EFL League Two)

The O’s struck late on to grab a muchly-needed point at Huish Park. Just before half-time, Francois Zoko gave the Glovers the lead. With only minutes remaining, Gavin Massey levelled to give Danny Webb’s side a share of the spoils. Yeovil have now only won one of their last ten league matches and rise to 16th spot. Orient have ended a six-match losing streak with this result, though remain 23rd, three points from safety.

Braintree Town  1  –  0   North Ferriby Utd   (National League Premier)

The Iron grabbed a morale-boosting win at Cressing Road against the Villagers after being dumped out of the FA Trophy in mid-week. Substitute Reece-Hall Johnson grabbed the solitary goal late-on. Braintree stay in 18th spot, though are now four points ahead of the bottom four. North Ferriby remain bottom, now three points from safety.

Southport  1   –  4    Dagenham & Redbridge    (National League Premier)

Dagenham came back from an early setback to grab an important win at Southport. The Sandgrounders took the lead through a Jamie Allen penalty mid-way through the first-half. Just past the half-hour, the Daggers drew level thanks to Jordan Maguire-Drew. John Still’s men went ahead through an OG from Robbie Cundy. Fejiri Okenabirhie extended the visitors’ advantage just before the break. A late Corey Whitely penalty sealed the points. Dagenham stay 2nd after their 5th league win in-a-row. Southport fall into the bottom four on goal difference, in 21st spot.

Chelmsford City  1  –  1  St Albans City    (National League South)

The Clarets were held by the Saints in a battle of two play-off chasing sides at Melbourne Park. Elliott Buchanan put the hosts’ in-front early on, before Louie Theophanous grabbed a late equaliser. Chelmsford are now unbeaten in their last ten home league matches, they drop to 7th spot, four points off the top five. St Albans are level on points with today’s opponents, they fall to 8th place.

Concord picked up an important win at the Aspect Arena. Tony Stokes put the hosts ahead early-on, before Lyle Della-Verde doubled the lead on the half-hour. The Beach Boys rise to 16th place, six points clear of the bottom three. Eastbourne stay in 12th place.

Craig Edwards’ side grabbed another important win at New Lodge. A first half brace from Billy Bricknell put the home side in the ‘driver’s seat’ at the break. Josh Webb scored a late penalty to reduce Boro’s arrears though the home side held firm. ‘Ricay rise to 11th place, whilst Harrow fall to 19th place, just two points clear of the bottom four.

Aveley came from behind to hold Bowers at the Mill Field. Ross Adams put the visitors ahead on the half-hour. Just four minutes later, Mason Bloomfield levelled for the Millers. Ware picked up a narrow win at the Brentwood Arena. Evandro Delgado’s  second-half winner sealed all three points for Anwar Uddin’s side. Brentwood stay 22nd in the table, four points from safety. Ware rise to 18th spot, seven points clear of the bottom three.

Great Wakering Rovers 2   – 5   AFC Hornchurch   (Ryman League Division North)

Wakering endured another hard afternoon at Burroughs Park. Ross Wall put the visitors ahead early-on, before Jake Gordon equalised for Rovers mid-way through the first half. Hornchurch roared clear after the break as Abs Thompson and a hat-trick from hot-shot Leon McKenzie (including one from the spot) sealed the points for the Urchins. Wakering are now winless in their last ten league matches, remaining bottom of the pile, 12 points from safety. Hornchurch rise to 3rd spot, six points behind leaders Maldon & Tiptree.

Ware picked up a narrow win at the Brentwood Arena. Evandro Delgado’s  second-half winner sealed all three points for Anwar Uddin’s side. Brentwood stay 22nd in the table, four points from safety. Ware rise to 18th spot, seven points clear of the bottom three.

Great Wakering Rovers 2   – 5   AFC Hornchurch   (Ryman League Division North)

Wakering endured another hard afternoon at Burroughs Park. Ross Wall put the visitors ahead early-on, before Jake Gordon equalised for Rovers mid-way through the first half. Hornchurch roared clear after the break as Abs Thompson and a hat-trick from hot-shot Leon McKenzie (including one from the spot) sealed the points for the Urchins. Wakering are now winless in their last ten league matches, remaining bottom of the pile, 12 points from safety. Hornchurch rise to 3rd spot, six points behind leaders Maldon & Tiptree.
