Football: Local Sides Round-up (Through the Divisions) – January 7th 2017

Scott W reports with a round-up of all of today’s results (Jan 7th ‘17) from the local sides we look out for on Phoenix Sport, from West Ham Utd all the way to Bowers & Pitsea & Brentwood Town.

West Ham Utd 0  –  5 Man City   (Fri R – FA Cup Third Round)

The Citizens blasted the Hammers out of the FA Cup with a dominant performance at the London Stadium. First-half goals by Yaya Toure (pen), Raheem Sterling and David Silva put the visitors almost out of sight by half-time. Sergio Aguero and John Stones made their side’s progression more than safe.

Ipswich Town 2 – 2 Lincoln City  (FA Cup Third Round)

Ipswich were held at Portman Road by National League visitors Lincoln City, managed by ex-Braintree boss Danny Cowley. Lincoln took a surprise early lead through Theo Robinson, before Tom Lawrence levelled for the Tractor Boys just five minutes later. Midway through the second period, Robinson put the Imps back ahead. Though with just minutes remaining, Lawrence struck again to deny a cup upset though Ipswich will have to play a replay at Sincil Bank for the right to passage into Round 4.

Southend Utd 2  – 4  Sheffield Utd      (EFL League One)

Southend’s unbeaten recent run was ended by division leaders Sheffield Utd at Roots Hall. Ethan Ebanks-Landell put the Blades in front just three minutes in, though Simon Cox levelled for the Shrimpers. Jack O’Connell once again put the visitors in front before half-time, then made the game safe with two goals in five minutes from Caolan Lavery and Kieron Freeman. Jermaine McGlashan got a late consolation for Phil Brown’s men. Southend stay in 7th place in the league table, whilst Chris Wilder’s men stay four points clear at the top, having won their sixth league match on-the-trot.

Colchester Utd 4  –  1 Carlisle Utd  (EFL League Two)

Colchester continued their good recent run, defeating Keith Curle’s men at the Colchester Community Stadium. Chris Porter put the U’s in front early on, before Shaun Brisley levelled for the Cumbrians. Kurtis Guthrie put his side back ahead before the break, before adding two more in the second half to complete his hat-trick and the win for John McGreal’s side, their fifth league win in a row. They rise into 6th spot, seven points off the promotion spots. Carlisle stay third.

Leyton Orient 1  –  3 Barnet    (EFL League Two)

The O’s indifferent recent form continued as the Bees claimed the win at Brisbane Road. Recent signing Ricardo Santos’ brace mid-way into the second half put the visitors 2-0 up. Paul McCallum  pulled one back for Orient with ten minutes left, then Curtis Weston sealed the win late-on for Barnet. Orient are in 21st place, four points ahead of the bottom two, whilst the Bees rise to 7th spot, having won six of their last eight league matches.

Braintree Town 1 –  2 Chester  (National League Premier)

The Iron fell to Chester at Cressing Road. Jack Midson put Town in front on the half-hour, though a James Alabi second-half brace grabbed all three points for the Seals. Braintree are in 18th spot, just two points clear of the bottom four. Chester rise to 9th spot, seven points away from the top five , having only lost two of their last ten league matches.

North Ferriby Utd  0 – 4 Dagenham & Redbridge    (National League Premier)

The Daggers comfortably defeated National League newcomers North Ferriby at Grange Lane. Feijiri Okenabirhie and Oliver Hawkins put John Still’s men two-up in the first 15 minutes. On the half-hour, Luke Guttridge added a third before Hawkins netted again just after the hour mark to increase the Villagers’ pain. North Ferriby have lost 7 of their last 10 home league matches now, and fall to 23rd place, two points from safety. As for the Daggers, they sit 4th, three points off leaders Lincoln, who have two games in hand.

Chelmsford City  1 –  0 Whitehawk      (National League South)

Chelmsford narrowly defeated the out-of-form Hawks at Melbourne Park. Max Cornhill scored the only goal to give Rod Stringer’s side the win. The Clarets rise to 3rd spot, whilst Whitehawk slip to 19th place, only out of the bottom three on goal difference.

Concord Rangers 1 –  3 Weston-super-Mare     (National League South)

Concord slipped to defeat against fellow strugglers Weston-super-Mare at the Aspect Arena. The Seagulls were three-up at the break through goals from Bradley Ash, Jamie Chamberlain and Gethyn Hill. The Beach Boys pulled one back with twenty minutes left through Steve Cawley but it wasn’t to be. Concord are now in the bottom 3 in 20th spot, whilst Weston rise to 16th place, three points clear of today’s opponents.

Dartford 6  – 1 East Thurrock Utd   (National League South)

The Rocks were hammered by the Darts at Princes Park. Tom Bonner, Alex Brown, Tom Murphy and Andy Pugh made the win safe before half-time. Ryan Hayes and Elliot Bradbrook (pen) added to John Coventry’s side’s off-day, though Tom Wraight got the Rocks’ consolation. Dartford rise to 5th place, having only lost one of their last ten league matches at home. East Thurrock are in 9th spot, now 11 points away from the top 5.

Bognor Regis Town  2 –  1 Billericay Town     (Ryman Premier Division)

‘Ricay were defeated late-on by leaders Bognor at Nyewood Lane. Chad Field put Bognor in front just past the hour mark, though Craig Edwards’ men levelled through Lewis Taafe with seven minutes left. A late penalty from James Fraser pinched the win for Jamie Howell’s side, who are now undefeated in six league matches. They stay top, a point ahead of Needham Market. Town are in 14th spot.

Great Wakering Rovers 0  – 5  Ware               (Ryman League Division North)

Ware, under the tutelage of ex-Daggers legend Anwar Uddin for the first time, romped to a big win at Burroughs Park. The visitors were 4-0 up at half-time, Dean Mason, Gareth Price and Josh Oyibo getting the first three inside the first ten minutes. Price added his second before half-time before Oyibo grabbed his brace after the hour-mark to complete the rout. Ware rise to 18th spot, eight points clear of the bottom three. Wakering are 23rd, now eight points from safety.

Haringey Borough 3  – 2  Brentwood Town       (Ryman League Division North)

Tony Ievoli’s Brentwood side once again were edged out late-on, this time by mid-table Haringey at Coles Park. Dean Fenton put the hosts ahead, before Andy Freeman levelled on-the-hour mark for Town. Two goals in a four-minute spell did for the visitors though, as Anthony MacDonald and Ralston Gabriel put Tom Loizou’s men 3-1 ahead. Returning hot-shot Lamar Reynolds got another back for the visitors late-on. How they need his goals at this point in time. Brentwood stay in 22nd place, six points from safety. Haringey stay 11th, just four points off the top five, having won their 7th consecutive home match here.

Thamesmead Town  2  –  1 Bowers & Pitsea       (Ryman League Division North)

Thamesmead came from behind to defeat Rob Small’s men at Bayliss Avenue. David Knight had put the visitors ahead six minutes before the break, but goals from Alex Teniola and Bode Anidugbe after the hour mark sealed the win for Tommy Warrilow’s side. Thamesmead rise to 14th place with this, their 8th win in their last ten league matches. Bowers fall two places to 5th.

On the half-hour, Luke Guttridge added a third before Hawkins netted again just after the hour mark to increase the Villagers’ pain. North Ferriby have lost 7 of their last 10 home league matches now, and fall to 23rd place, two points from safety. As for the Daggers, they sit 4th, three points off leaders Lincoln, who have two games in hand.

Chelmsford City  1 –  0 Whitehawk      (National League South)

Chelmsford narrowly defeated the out-of-form Hawks at Melbourne Park. Max Cornhill scored the only goal to give Rod Stringer’s side the win. The Clarets rise to 3rd spot, whilst Whitehawk slip to 19th place, only out of the bottom three on goal difference.

Concord Rangers 1 –  3 Weston-super-Mare     (National League South)

Concord slipped to defeat against fellow strugglers Weston-super-Mare at the Aspect Arena. The Seagulls were three-up at the break through goals from Bradley Ash, Jamie Chamberlain and Gethyn Hill. The Beach Boys pulled one back with twenty minutes left through Steve Cawley but it wasn’t to be. Concord are now in the bottom 3 in 20th spot, whilst Weston rise to 16th place, three points clear of today’s opponents.

Dartford 6  – 1 East Thurrock Utd   (National League South)

The Rocks were hammered by the Darts at Princes Park. Tom Bonner, Alex Brown, Tom Murphy and Andy Pugh made the win safe before half-time. Ryan Hayes and Elliot Bradbrook (pen) added to John Coventry’s side’s off-day, though Tom Wraight got the Rocks’ consolation. Dartford rise to 5th place, having only lost one of their last ten league matches at home. East Thurrock are in 9th spot, now 11 points away from the top 5.

Bognor Regis Town  2 –  1 Billericay Town     (Ryman Premier Division)

‘Ricay were defeated late-on by leaders Bognor at Nyewood Lane. Chad Field put Bognor in front just past the hour mark, though Craig Edwards’ men levelled through Lewis Taafe with seven minutes left. A late penalty from James Fraser pinched the win for Jamie Howell’s side, who are now undefeated in six league matches. They stay top, a point ahead of Needham Market. Town are in 14th spot.

Great Wakering Rovers 0  – 5  Ware               (Ryman League Division North)

Ware, under the tutelage of ex-Daggers legend Anwar Uddin for the first time, romped to a big win at Burroughs Park. The visitors were 4-0 up at half-time, Dean Mason, Gareth Price and Josh Oyibo getting the first three inside the first ten minutes. Price added his second before half-time before Oyibo grabbed his brace after the hour-mark to complete the rout. Ware rise to 18th spot, eight points clear of the bottom three. Wakering are 23rd, now eight points from safety.

Haringey Borough 3  – 2  Brentwood Town       (Ryman League Division North)

Tony Ievoli’s Brentwood side once again were edged out late-on, this time by mid-table Haringey at Coles Park. Dean Fenton put the hosts ahead, before Andy Freeman levelled on-the-hour mark for Town. Two goals in a four-minute spell did for the visitors though, as Anthony MacDonald and Ralston Gabriel put Tom Loizou’s men 3-1 ahead. Returning hot-shot Lamar Reynolds got another back for the visitors late-on. How they need his goals at this point in time. Brentwood stay in 22nd place, six points from safety. Haringey stay 11th, just four points off the top five, having won their 7th consecutive home match here.

Thamesmead Town  2  –  1 Bowers & Pitsea       (Ryman League Division North)

Thamesmead came from behind to defeat Rob Small’s men at Bayliss Avenue. David Knight had put the visitors ahead six minutes before the break, but goals from Alex Teniola and Bode Anidugbe after the hour mark sealed the win for Tommy Warrilow’s side. Thamesmead rise to 14th place with this, their 8th win in their last ten league matches. Bowers fall two places to 5th.
