80’s World Cup and Mister Kanish

facebook.com/GR80sRadioShow @Gr80sRadioShow
We’ve just waved goodbye to the 2014 World Cup so I thought I’d look at the world cups that were held in the 80’s. In 1982 – the 12th FIFA World Cup was won by Italy. The Golden Ball, awarded to the tournament’s best player, was handed out for the first time to Italys Paolo Rossi who scored 6 goals, the most in the tournament which meant he also won the Golden Boot award!

The 1986 World Cup was won by Argentina, captained by Diego Maradona, who scored the “Hand of God” goal. Gary Linekar was top scorer in the 1986 World Cup (6 goals) and received the Golden Boot, the only time an Englishman has achieved this feat.

The Bond films featured Roger Moore at the beginning of the decade, and Timothy Dalton at the end.

The FEATURED BAND this week was MISTER KANISH, a five piece pop and rock cover band:
Ben, Andy, Chris, Ollie and Tim have been playing music together for 7 years. Their superb cover is one of my favourites, Take On Me by Aha:

As well being a contemporary rock and pop wedding band, the guys now offer Classic Kanish – a vintage style semi-acoustic band with double bass and acoustic guitars. For more information go to: www.misterkanish.com

David got in touch to say his favourite band in the 80’s was Flock of Seagulls, and Lee emailed in to request Labi Siffre from 1987.
