Very unkindly, some people at the station have nicknamed me “The Firestarter”. This is on account of the problems I sometimes have grappling with the electronic equipment we have at the station. The plain fact is that I haven’t actually set anything on fire there, although I was on site twice when fire was located in the building where we were based at the time. Not our present building, nor even the studio. Nevertheless the name has stuck! Now most people are celebrating Guy Fawkes night tonight so you would have thought that given my alleged pedigree that I might have been asked to officiate at some bonfire event – but not so. Indeed it was suggested that I should keep my distance, lest I be mistaken for the guy and chucked on the fire. Sometimes you just can’t win!
Anyway a cold day in November might not be the best day to take your PACKED LUNCH outdoors, so instead we stayed firmly in a nice warm studio and armed with some “hot hits” and some real golden oldies we were able to keep the temperature high and enjoy some of the latest songs mixed with some greatest memories of the recent past.
For a more distant view of the past I was joined by Frances Clamp for our Brentwood & Billericay Bygones feature at half past one. Frances provided us with the story of how the railway service was extended to Billericay. You can listen again to what she had to say right here: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Bygones-30th-October.mp3|titles=Bygones 30th October]
I do hope you will enjoy your Guy Fawkes night. Whatever you do make it a safe one and have fun.
I’ll see you again next week.
All the best,
Scott
