May we bank on it….

Well, what a busy week and indeed weekender….Friday night in Basildon listening to Tenek, Modovar and Blancmange at BASII…..and another evening of more of the same today; Methinks I won’t stand so close to the PA, as my ears are still ringing.

The actual stage set up and sound was, and is unbelievable for a mere local football club….the kind of value you get at proper music festival events – well done to the BAS productions team.

Twofers today was a tribute to the late Adam Yauch aka ‘MCA’, Of the Beastie Boys, who lost his long battle with  cancer and passed away yesterday  – So we blazed an audio trail with two from the boys – ‘Sabotage’ and Intergalactic’.Adam 'MCA' Yauch - BEASTIE BOYS

My Comedy Pick

‘Balls to Homelessness’ – 7th May 2012 – Comedy Store

Join MC Justin Moorhouse for a night in aid of the homeless. “Balls To Homelessness” will star a clutch of comedy greats including Alan Davies, Jack Whitehall, Ian Stone, Romesh Ranganathan and Jim Campbell. The ‘opposing side’ will consist of Stephen Grant, Seann Walsh, Lloyd Griffith and a HUGE special guest.

Michael McIntyre ‘Work in Progress’ – 9th May 2012 – Soho Theatre

Michael McIntyre is one of the biggest names in comedy, and his witty commentary on everyday life has made him a huge star. You can catch him when he plays a “work in progress” show at the Soho Theatre.

Bill Bailey’s Qualmpeddler – 10th May 2012 • Leicester Square Theatre

Bill’s new show “Qualmpeddler” is all about his ‘qualms’. Bill has many qualms, chiefly about the modern world, nuclear power, dentists, rare planetary alignments, the spice girls and the Mayan End of Days prophecy.

Gig picks:

Tue May 8th – The Cribs – Troxy, London

Wakefield four-piece comprising brothers Ryan, Gary and Ross Jarman and ex-Smiths guitarist and songwriter Johnny Marr are known for their, gritty melodies, earthy guitar sound and bitingly observant lyrics.

Wed May 9thGarbage – Troxy, London

Nineties indie band fronted by fiercely intelligent Shirley Manson who provides the tortured and acerbic lyrics to the male musical backbone of Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig. The band are particularly popular in the United States and are arguably most famous for their radio friendly hits such as Stupid Girl, I’m Think I’m Paranoid and Only Happy When It Rains.

Thur 10 May – Happy MondaysO2 Academy Brixton

Legendary Manchester band Happy Mondays return with their original line-up.

Thursday 10 May – The SubwaysO2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

Fearless indie three-piece band from Hertfordshire who crackle with the hormonal exuberance of youth
