Enjoying the 4th Burfday of the Phoenix

Four years ago Phoenix 98 FM took to the airwaves and hasn’t looked back; apart from to remind us of some great moments…….so the Saturday Breakfast show had the joy of being the first out of the trap for our day of music and merriment……

So we doft our birthday cap to this great milestone and as per squeezed out some of the best music; synonymous with the variety of Phoenix FM –  An would you believe it our clocks spring forward on Sunday……….Lighter evenings, what more can you want.

As always I touched on things to do locally and we had a little wafflet about the cringe that is The Only way is Essex…..well, it would have been rude not too. Or maybe it was rude to do so, can’t decide. If that wasn’t enough I mentioned that, Lakeside Shopping Centre on Monday (March 28), will be a meet and greet for fans and the cast will be signing copies of The Only Way Is Essex series one on DVD.

You may not of caught the One night special on ITV last week for Duran Duran, so that gave us an excuse to play two from one……..So Twofers featured the Brum 80’s heart-throbs…we had “Planet Earth and The Reflex.”

My Comedy Pick gives you a double chance to see Bolton’s favourably comic son…along with our very own Landlord:

Al Murray, at the Lyric Hammersmith – 27th March

Al will be headlining the Sunday night comedy slot at the Lyric Hammersmith alongside Simon Munnery, John Maloney and MC Richard Herring.

Peter Kay’s “The Tour That Doesn’t Tour Tour” – 31st March

Arguably Britain’s most popular comedian, Bolton-born Peter Kay comes to the O2 Arena with his “Tour That Doesn’t Tour Tour”. After selling out a record breaking run of twenty nights at the Manchester Evening News Arena, this will be Peter’s first national tour since his ‘Mum Wants A Bungalow Tour’ seven years ago

Peter Kay’s “The Tour That Doesn’t Tour Tour” This time from 1st – 4th April

Live music wise, there is a decent selection to wet your appetite;

Sun 27 Mar David McAlmontDingwalls, Camden

A gig from David McAlmont, who is possibly best known for his various music collaborations, in particular the very popular McAlmont and Butler and his work with David Arnold.

Mon/Tue

28/29 Mar

Elbow02 Arena

Inspirational acoustic indie band from Bury who came into prominence in the late nineties. The band are critically acclaimed and have produced four albums of Velvet Underground influenced material during their sixteen years together.

Tue 29 Mar Patrick Wolf – Koko, Camden

South London born singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf bestows the image and demeanour of a man far removed from the world of popular music. The intense, mesmeric, ballad-driven sound he makes suggests otherwise, yet his is a particular, unique brand of dislocated, convulsive pop which sounds like everything and nothing you’ve ever heard before.

Sat 02 Apr Gary Numan – Troxy, Limehouse

Hammersmith-born electronica pioneer famous for futuristic classics, such as ‘Are Friends Electric?’ and ‘Cars’. Also on the bill for this night will be the Original lead vocalist for Ultravox, John Foxx.

Sat /Sun

02/03 Apr

Big Audio Dynamite – O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

The groundbreaking rock-hiphop-reggae outfit formed by Mick Jones in the wake of The Clash will reunite after twenty five years for a series of international live dates.
