NEWS THIS WEEK IN THE 80’s
1981 – The Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk, the first operational aircraft initially designed around stealth technology, makes its first flight. The Nighthawk was shrouded in secrecy until it was revealed in 1988.

1983 – Space Shuttle program: STS-7, Astronaut Sally Ride becomes the first American woman in space… She remains the youngest American astronaut to have travelled to space, having done so at the age of 32.

1984 – Virgin Atlantic Airways launches with its first flight from London to Newark in NYC.
