2011 Review Part 1 – 13/12/11

It’s that time of the year again, when every single website, newspaper, labrador are all coming out with their top albums of 2011 lists. We at the 33RPM show are no different and next week we’ll be running down our top 25 albums of the year. But for this week we took a lot and some other noteworthy lists, including BBC, NME, Q, Rolling Stone, Stereogum and a few others. PJ Harvey is a very popular choice this year and featured on pretty much all of the lists, taking top spot more than any other album.

For the featured album this week we celebrated the news that The Afghan Whigs are reforming and playing the ATP I’ll Be Your Mirror Festival running from May 25th – May 27th at Alexandra Palace. Also announced (amongest many other great additions) are Chavez, who are my non 2011 greatest discovery of this year. Releasing 2 albums in the mid-90’s of some of the best indie-rock you will ever hear!

As it’s the festive season we threw in a few christmas songs from the likes of The Fall, Gruff Rhys and Aidan Moffat (well we were never going to go the conventional route!).
We had some local music for your enjoyment as well, a little side-project from the drummer of The Unrest (Soroush Majd) who has been making some music on the side under the moniker All I Know. You can check out more of both bands on Facebook.

Finally we celebrated the announcement that Blur are being awarded the outstanding contribution award at next years brits and commiserated the split of Grinderman.

I will also mention that next weeks show there will be a competition, where you can win your choice of any 3 albums from our top 25 list! So be sure to tune in! See you next week.
