Book Review – The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

This was the title of the book chosen by Margaret Mills for this month’s review.

An interesting title I think you will agree.

So what’s it all about? Set in an affluent retirement village – COOPERS CHASE in Kent  – members of the Thursday Murder Club, meet every Thursday afternoon to investigate unsolved murder cases that the Kent police force have been too incompetent to prosecute themselves.

Established by a former intelligence agent and an ex police detective inspector, the club has been joined by a former trade unionist, a one time nurse and a psychiatrist, who together pit their minds to solve the “so called” cold cases, until a real murder falls neatly into their laps.

Apparently the book has already become the fastest selling debut adult crime novel since records began!

So does it measure up?

Well listen again here to Margaret’s reviews or judge for yourself:-

The book is The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman (published 2020 by Viking, paperback £7.99 on Amazon, £9.99 WH Smith, Kindle £9.99, Hardcover £14.99).

Earlier in today’s show we heard about the racing pigeon that’s just been snatched up in an auction for £1.4m!

This mighty sum was reached during the frantic final 30 minutes of a two-week long auction, during which two Chinese bidders operating under the pseudonyms of SUPER DUPER and HITMAN drove up the price of the 2-year old female racing pigeon from €200 to €1.6m – that’s £1.4m.

Well I just hope no one accidentally shoots it out of the sky and ends up having it for dinner.

The bird’s owner breeder from Belgium, KURT VAN de WOUVER and his family were said to be in shock at their windfall, even more so as apparently the highest prices are usually reserved for males as they can produce more offspring.

Well at least if it’s going to be used just for breeding, the chances of it ending up on the table must be considerably reduced!

Right I’ll see you again tomorrow,
Scott
