NEWS THIS WEEK
1983: The first of 10 ARMS Charity Concerts was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The subsequent 9 concerts were held in America. The charitable rock concerts were in support of Action into Research for Multiple Sclerosis and featured a star-studded line-up of musicians, including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Steve Winwood, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts.
1984: The first annual MTV Video Music Awards were held in New York City. The show was hosted by Dan Aykroyd and Bette Midler at the Radio City Music Hall. Herbie Hancock won the most awards, and The Cars took the highest prize of Video Of The Year for “You Might Think”. Madonna got the most attention with her controversial performance of her hit single “Like a Virgin” when she rolled around on the stage, revealing lacy stockings and garters!
