Champion racing driver Lochlan Bearman visited Phoenix FM the studios this week to talk about his title-winning season and his step up for next year.
13 year old Lochlan visited with his father John and team boss Gary Cooper from Cooper Motorsport.
Phoenix FM has been sponsoring Lochlan for two years, in which time he has won a number of awards, including winning the Rotax Minimax Championship in 2014 and 2015.
Lochlan announced on Steve Robertson’s “Between the Lines” sports show that he will be competing in the Fiesta Junior Championship next year, turning up to the studio with the very car they will be racing!
Lochlan will be racing at top circuits in the UK in a campaign that will run from April next year. Some of the circuits Lochlan will be racing on for the first time includes Brands Hatch and Silverstone, with the official race calender being announced in early January.
This is a big step for Lochlan, moving from Minimax Karts but Lochlan, John and Gary are looking forward to the season already and are hungry for success.
Gary is keen to push the academy side of Cooper Motorsport, telling Steve Robertson that he is keen to see Lochlan make the move through to single seaters within the next couple of years.
Steve said, “Lochlan is clearly a real talent and we look forward to continuing to watch his progress next year at the country’s most prestigious racetracks”.
John added, “It’s an exciting time for us, Lochlan has won four karting Championships and it’s time to step up despite his age. The Fiesta series will be Televised and we are looking for sponsors and partners to join Phoenix FM and Cooper Motorsport and be part of the story to help Lochlan continue his progress”.
