28th August – Danger Mouse, Haifa Jordan, and Big!

facebook.com/GR80sRadioShow @Gr80sRadioShow

Danger Mouse was a cartoon that ran from September 1981 to March 1992. It features Danger Mouse, an English mouse who works as a secret agent (voiced by David Jason). Interestingly, he speaks 34 languages fluently, including some extraterrestrial ones!!

Ernest Penfold (voiced by Terry Scott) Danger Mouse’s reluctant assistant was a coward (codenamed “The Jigsaw,” as he goes to pieces when a problem occurs), and Baron Greenback (voiced by Edward Kelsey) was the recurring villain and Danger Mouse’s archenemy. Allegedly, he turned to a life of crime as a schoolboy when other children stole his bicycle and let all the air out of its tyres.

This week I featured Haifa Jordan who was in the final 7 in Sharon Obsournes X Factor category in 2005. Her career is really taking off again and she is releasing some material later this year. The cover I played was a live version of the 1989 track “Wicked Game”.

You can see Haifa perform live this Saturday (30 Aug 2014) at a Family Fundraiser event for Save the Children at The Travellers Friend in the High Road, Woodford Green. There is lots of live music, BBQ, and fun for the children so go along from 3pm. For more information about Haifa go to her website www.haifajordan.com

We remembered some 80’s comedy films this week: Big, Three Men and a Baby and Teen Wolf!

I also re-visited our fashion nightmares – remember the mullet, the flattop, the hi-top fade, and big hair? What about shoulder pads, jean jackets, leather pants, aviator jackets, jumpsuits, wrap dress, skin-tight acid-washed jeans, miniskirts, leggings and leg warmers? Brilliant!
