I Can Feel My Blood Rush With The Tides – 12/01/14

ed-harcourt-time-of-dust

2014 is truly open us now as we welcome the first releases of the year. Ed Harcourt returns with an EP of new material entitled Time Of Dust. A darker broodier cousin to his 2013 album Back Into The Woods, this sees the singer-songwriter with band in tow, making music for the time of night when the moon is at it’s fullest and the only thing you can hear is the distant sounds of a world dreaming.
Also getting lots of play this week on the 33RPM stereo is the new album from Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks, continuing on from where 2011’s Mirror Traffic finished with 45 minutes of laid-back slacker jams and cryptic lyrics.
If something a little louder and faster, then I have just the thing in the shape of a new 7″ from Los Angeles punks Neighborhood Brats with Total Dementia, a four track delight which is fast, furious and all in all rather good fun.
And finally something that comes highly recommended is an EP by Austin band Ringo Deathstarr entitled God’s Dream. I’m ashamed to say this is the first time I’ve listened to this band, but on the strength of this I’ll definitely be checking out more. At points hazy and dreamlike and at others grinding feedback driven loveliness it all adds up to a thoroughly enjoyable listen.
I’m liking this year very much already.
